Owner of Pa. winery for sale: 'We need to refocus our energy on our young family'
The producer, located north of Harrisburg, is on the market for the second time in less than a year.
It was a little less than a year ago that the third owners of Hunters Valley Winery, Amber and Bryan Keister, turned the lights back on at the business that sits along Routes 11/15 north of Harrisburg.
Located in Perry County, near Liverpool, the wine producer with arguably one of the best views in the mid-Atlantic, was purchased by the young couple in late July of 2025. While looking for a business to buy, the Mechanicsburg couple saw the listing and drove up, and “fell in love with the place, especially the view. We reached out to the realtor, and it kind of just all happened. It all fell into place,” Amber said at the time.
Eleven months later, they have it up for sale.
They bought the business from Mike, Carol and Jamie Williams, who already owned The Winery at Wilcox in Elk County and The Winery at Versailles in Ohio.
Located around 30 miles north of Harrisburg and 20 miles south of Selinsgrove, the winery’s history traces back to 1981 when Bill and Darlene Kvaternik bought a small farm on the hill and planted their first vines. The Williams family purchased the place in 2015, a year after Bill died.
Now it’s listed by Whitetail Properties Real Estate for just short of $1 million, including the winery and the more than 27 acres that “feature the best seat in the Susquehanna River Valley,” per the listing.
Amber said Monday that the couple plans to stay open until they sell the place.
She added that building and running this business has been an “absolute labor of love, and we have deeply appreciated the opportunity to be stewards of this beautiful land and connect with our community.
“The simple truth behind our decision comes down to striking a better balance with family priorities. Managing a vibrant property like this requires time and dedication, and we’ve reached a season where we need to refocus our energy on our young family,” she said.
The winery, open, Fridays through Sundays, is not the only one for sale in central Pennsylvania. Owners Tom and Tammy Webb put Spyglass Ridge Winery, in Sunbury, Northumberland County, on the market in February. That winery, which includes a restaurant, is listed for $4.4 million. Also, Sal Cullari told The Wine Classroom last month that he was planning to sell his Hershey winery.
“While there is discussion around shifts in the wider wine industry, our choice is entirely personal,” Amber Keister said. “In fact, we are incredibly proud of the foundation we are leaving behind. We’ve built a turnkey operation with established vineyards, a loyal following and massive potential for future growth. We have poured our hearts into making this a successful, ready-to-go destination and it is fully primed for a new owner to step in, take the reins and write the next chapter.
“It’s bittersweet for us, but we are excited to see who will bring fresh energy to this amazing property.”
